Dobra razlaga:
None of the experts platformed by the MSM has a good grasp of the logic of the Sunni alliance. We hear all this nonsense about a regional security structure and a desire to diversify away from US security provision. These are incorrect takes. Here is what is actually going on.
- The prime mover here is the Kingdom. The Pakistanis have tagged along as the Saudis’ security partner and nuclear backup. Think of this as a Turkish-Saudi alliance with outside support from Islamabad.
- The Turks are not interested in fighting the Iranians for the Saudis. In any case, the Turks cannot offer the Saudis any more protection against the Iranians than the Americans. So this is really not about Iran.
- The reason that the Turks are interested in a military alliance with the Saudis is because they feel extremely threatened by the Israelis, who are now open gunning for the Turks: ‘Turkey is the new Iran’. Everyone understands that the Americans and their European bootlickers are not going to protect anyone against Israel. That is the driver of this alliance formation. Moreover, the Turks understand that the Saudis can’t militarily help them with the Israelis. The point of this half alliance is to complicate US calculations in the event of an Israeli attack on Turkey.
- What is really interesting and important is that the Egyptians decided to take a pass. Perhaps the Americans coerced them into it; perhaps they are simply afraid of the Israelis. We might learn at some point. But Egypt bears watching because an Egyptian-Turkish alliance is the greatest nightmare of the Israelis, and is the correct solution to the hyperaggressive agenda of the Israelis.
- The Israeli/lobby campaign against the Turks extends to Qatar. The Israelis have put the microstate in the same ‘Muslim Brotherhood box’ as Turkey. Recall how the Israelis bombed Hamas leaders in Doha. This immediately prompted the WH to issue EO 14353. ‘The United States shall regard any armed attack on the territory, sovereignty, or critical infrastructure of the State of Qatar as a threat to the peace and security of the United States.’
- This then raises the big question: what is the US doing behind the scenes? My read is that the US got the Egypt to take a pass because they understand that Egyptian participation would turn this into an Israeli nightmare. What seems to have happened is that the US could not prevail on the Saudis and the Turks, given the noises coming from Tel Aviv, but they did manage to scuttle the most serious alliance formation for now.
The state that bears watching here is not Pakistan. It is Egypt.
