Kitajska vlada naj bi se po poročanju nekaterih medijev na evropske carine na uvoz kitajskih električnih avtomobilov odzvala na prefinjen način, kot to znajo le Kitajci: s pozivom kitajskim avtomobilskim podjetjem, da začasno zaustavijo investicije v tiste članice EU, ki so glasovale za uvedbo carin na kitajske e-avte. Kaj menite, kakšen bo diferencialni učinek na gospodarstva teh držav?
This, if confirmed, is arguably a bigger deal than China’s retaliatory tariffs on French cognac.
Not only would this deprive the 10 concerned EU countries (including France, Poland and Italy) of billions in FDI and tens of thousands of jobs, but it would also make it all that much harder for them to develop their own EV sector, helped by China’s know how.
The reason some countries voted for the tariffs was that it’d help their auto industry survive, but ironically as a result those that voted against the tariffs (including Germany) will probably see their auto industry fare much better than those that voted for it.
Which is a classic China move: they always seek to demonstrate that hostile actions against them have the complete opposite effect than the one intended. We’ve seen this with the US solar tariffs against China in the mid-2010s, which essentially destroyed the US solar industry. We’re seeing this with the US semiconductors export controls, aimed at killing China’s progress in semiconductors but actually made China homegrown semiconductor industry thrive like never before. And we may in due time have another example here…
