Ameriška “strateška dvoumnost” zmanjšuje možnost vojaških konfliktov

The fact that some people are getting outraged by this shows how ignorant of geopolitics and history so many folks are.

What Trump is saying has actually been the historical policy of the United States for decades until the Biden administration…

It’s called strategic ambiguity: not commit to defend Taiwan one way or the other, which was put in place to deter war: if Taiwan doesn’t know if the US will come to their defense or not, they won’t declare independence and thereby trigger war.

Biden broke this by stating multiple times that he would in fact defend Taiwan, which was unprecedented since the reestablishment of diplomatic relations between the US and the PRC. The outrage should have been with him: it was a very provocative move, made war much more likely and committed the US to participate in it!

But no, the guy who goes back to the previous more reasonable policy – promoting peace – is somehow to blame… Really makes you wonder what people want: would they prefer increasingly rising tensions and even war between great powers? Any initiative that reduces the temperature and promotes peaceful exchanges should absolutely be applauded.
